NOTE

  • For LS series engine swaps only. These do not work on standard SBC or BBC.
  • Will not work on 4x4 applications.
  • Spark plug wires will be needed for proper clearance.
  • If using a larger 4L80E or older Turbo 350/400 transmission the bell housing ears may need to be trimmed for proper clearance.
  • Our headers are tucked in tight due to narrow older frame clearance.
  • Collector might need modification to work with aftermarket oil pans.

What Does an Exhaust Header Actually Do?

The exhaust header is the first section of the exhaust system and mounts directly to the engine. Its role is to collect exhaust gases from each cylinder and route them into the rest of the exhaust system.

Compared to many factory manifolds, header designs often focus on smoother internal flow and more uniform exhaust routing before gases move downstream.

What You May Notice After Installation

Smoother exhaust flow as engine speed increases

More consistent engine behavior across the RPM range

Improved exhaust routing when paired with other intake or exhaust components

Changes in exhaust tone, depending on system configuration

When This Type of Upgrade Is Typically Considered

Addressing airflow limitations in the factory exhaust manifold

Planning coordinated intake or exhaust system updates

Replacing aging or restrictive original components

Build a balanced, performance-focused setup

Factory Manifold vs. Performance Header

Factory Exhaust Manifold

Designed to meet packaging, cost, and emissions requirements
Prioritizes durability and compliance across broad use cases

Performance Exhaust Header

Designed with exhaust flow characteristics in mind
Built for higher exhaust temperatures and specific vehicle platforms
Commonly used as part of an exhaust system configuration

Important Notice

Products on this site are for off-road/racing use only and are not legal for public roads where emissions laws apply.

Professional installation recommended. Removing emissions equipment (DPF, CAT, SCR, DOC) requires deleting related sensors and a compatible tuner to avoid engine codes.

Performance gains may vary—no guarantees.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do exhaust headers do? +
Headers optimize exhaust flow from your engine, reducing backpressure and improving performance compared to restrictive factory manifolds.
What's the difference between headers and stock manifolds? +
Factory manifolds are restrictive and made for cost savings. Headers use equal-length tubes and smooth bends for better flow and more power.
Will headers increase horsepower? +
Yes, headers typically provide measurable horsepower and torque gains, especially in mid-to-high RPM ranges.
Do headers make the car louder? +
Headers usually create a deeper, more aggressive exhaust tone. The volume increase depends on your complete exhaust setup.
Do I need tuning after installing headers? +
For optimal performance and to prevent check engine lights, professional tuning is strongly recommended.
Are headers street legal? +
CARB-legal headers are available for many applications. Always check local emissions regulations. Race headers are for off-road use only.
Can I use headers with a stock exhaust system? +
Yes, headers can bolt to factory exhaust systems, but maximum performance comes with high-flow catalytic converters and cat-back systems.
Are headers hard to install? +
Installation varies by vehicle. Many are direct bolt-on, while some may require professional installation.
Will headers affect reliability? +
When properly installed and tuned, quality headers do not compromise reliability and can improve engine efficiency.
